MKE>LGA>FLL

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. You’re about to embark on a journey of a lifetime.  So please put any wireless devices on Airplane mode and make sure your seat backs are in their upright position and your tray tables are up as we depart for this journey.

And we’re off!  The day has finally come to head down to Fort Lauderdale for training.  After a slight delay in Milwaukee with my departing flight coming in from Minneapolis we are finally wheels up.  The flight seemed quite short to LaGuardia, not even enough time to watch a whole movie in flight. LaGuardia was decent. Each spot to sit and eat had their own iPad to place your food order and there were plenty of apps to keep you occupied until your food arrives.  As expected, the airport food was mediocre and over priced, but none the less the service was good and nice to kill time before boarding the next flight.
The flight to Fort Lauderdale was only about half full so almost all of us (the ones sitting closer to the front anyways) had no one next to us and boy was the extra room welcomed.  This flight was longer, was able to get a couple great photos out the window of the plane during take off of the city of New York and also on our decent over Fort Lauderdale.  Extra time on the flight was useful in getting to watch a full movie and a quick nap.  As always the staff at Delta was amazing during both flights.
Made my way over to Hertz to pick up my rental. I’d like to say that everything went smoothly but that’s not the case.  Prior to leaving I contacted Hertz to verify if I would need the physical credit card in my hand that I used to hold my reservation or if the total rental would just be put directly on that card and I could be on my way. —I don’t want to travel with that card as it has quite a high credit limit on it so don’t want a lot of charges racked up should I lose it or it get stolen.— I was assured that because I was a Hertz Gold Club Member that I would not need to have the credit card with me and could just be on my way.  That in fact was not the case upon my arrival to the Gold Club Desk at the Airport. They said that they could not let me leave with a vehicle without physically swiping the credit card.  Luckily I had an extra one with me with enough of a balance on it to cover the whole rental for a month.  Finally got the car and headed to the hotel for the night to get some rest.
Sunday and I’m up and ready to check into my apartment for the month. I was told that there was still someone in the unit that I was going to be renting and it needed to be cleaned so I should go to lunch for an hour or so before arriving.  I decided to head straight for the beach.  Took a drive up the A1A (“Beach Front Avenue” lol) and took in all the sights along the way.  There was entirely too many people around to find a place to quick park and take some pictures and I wasn’t going to pay $10 (for the first hour) to park the vehicle for 15 min to take some pictures so I settled for just the mental images from my drive.
Finally got to my apartment (looks ghetto from the outside) and it is a nice cozy place with a huge bedroom, queen bed, full size dresser and a nice desk to sit down and get some stuff done (just missing the chair to plop my ass on).  All in all a nice little place to call home for the month. Just need to head to the grocery store to fill up the fridge and cabinets, unpack my clothes and finish settling in for the night before getting up early the next day to start my first day of classes.
